Christmas, like so many winter holidays, brings a special feeling of warmth - despite the temperature outside. Cheerful memories are created when friends and family draw near to celebrate. A Bavarian themed mountain town called Leavenworth is one such place to craft lasting memories. During December, the town celebrates the season with beautiful decorations, entertainment, and goodies. Whether visiting Leavenworth is a longstanding yearly tradition or a once in a lifetime journey - your visit will be unforgettable. The Christmas Lighting Festival is observed the first three weekends of December. Official festivities take place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of each week from 12PM noon until 7:30pm. December 6th, 7th, and 8th; December 13th, 14th, and 15th; and December 20th, 21st, and 22nd. Being a city wide festival, entrance is free of charge!
What you'll find includes: living and beautifully lit Washington evergreen trees (okay, there are a few deciduous trees, too); thousands more lights adorning the Bavarian-style architecture; chestnuts roasting on an open fire and other holiday treats; carolers joyfully singing; holiday characters performing for you and your family.
There are many other great activities both with and without charges. Ideas range from snowshoeing, horse drawn sleigh rides, shopping, a family friendly sledding hill, skiing, breathtaking views of the Cascade mountains and over a quarter million lights in town, and Leavenworth Summer Theater presents "It's a Wonderful Life". From around the country come choirs, bands, entertainers, a living nativity, and St. Nikolas.
The invitation is always open to more families who want to make a holiday tradition. So join us in Leavenworth this winter to unwind and celebrate with loved ones.
